October Half Term 2016

Nearing the end of September, the summer is most certainly over and the autumn upon us! The days are becoming gradually colder and the evenings are turning darker earlier, so naturally our thoughts turn to the next school holidays, October Half Term! With October Half Term comes Halloween celebrations and even one or two early Bonfire Night celebrations with some fireworks displays! It may no longer be summer, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of events going on around the county for all the family to get involved with! A firm favourite year after year is the Saundersfoot Big […]

100 Years of Roald Dahl!

Believe it or not, 2016 celebrates the 100th Anniversary of famous author Roald Dahl’s birth – the writer with an imagination like no other who brought us the tales of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The Twits, James and The Giant Peach and of course, The BFG. Without a doubt, it is easy to spot how one man’s imagination has made such a significant impact on our world today. Roald Dahl was born on 13th September 1916 in the Welsh town of Llandaff, near Cardiff. After early schooling in Llandaff, he was sent to gain a private school education at […]

Bake Off is back!!

Like much of the British public, we here at Coastal Cottages are bursting with excitement at the fact that Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood are returning to our screens this evening with the brand new Series 7 of The Great British Bake Off. The programme broadcasts it’s first episode of the new season this evening at 8pm on BBC1 and let’s be honest, we’re all extremely excited to take a first look at the new twelve contestants who will be battling it out to be crowned the best baker of the dozen. The return of Bake Off sees many across […]

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ll already have an inkling that I’m a bit of a fan of a barbecue. When you grow up living by the beach, barbecues become part and parcel of summer life. After all, barbecues make for the perfect summer celebration. They take very little preparation or organisation; all you need is a good fun group of people, some delicious food and some refreshing drinks. So Gemma and I, Coastal’s Concierge Team, are getting into the summer spirit and putting on an irresistible summer promotion! We love a great hamper, especially when it’s bursting […]

Pembrokeshire’s Blue Flag Beaches

When deciding upon a destination for your next coastal holiday, it’s only sensible to do a quick bit of background research into the area and the local beaches. That’s why year after year, so many of our guests come back to book with us over the phone. All the staff here at Coastal are locals to the area, so it’s natural that some of our guests want to pick our brains for our opinions and local knowledge! One helpful way to spot a great beach is by taking a look at those awarded with the highly respected, Blue Flag Award. […]

Ty Uchaf Mill, Pwllderi 20295

Like many of you out there, I’ve been experiencing some slight jealousy towards all those out enjoying the beautiful weather whilst I sit at my desk writing this blog. The sun has been shining quite gloriously in the Pembrokeshire skies this last week, and so it’s only natural to want to make the most of it!  (I’m choosing to ignore the short period of drizzle we had this morning…) View from Garn Fawr But, rumour has it that this weather is due to stick around for a little while (fingers crossed!) and so there is still time to plan a little last-minute […]

Break out the Barbecue!

We’re into the month of May and the forecast is finally beginning to promise hot weather. Fearful that I may have jinxed the weather whilst writing this post as it is now raining, I think it’s safe to say people are getting ready to break out the summer dresses, shorts and flip-flops. We are on our way to warm summer days, and what better way to finish the day than by gathering around a barbecue with friends? Of course, every good barbecue needs delicious food and a cold drink to quench that thirst. Don’t worry – if you’re planning a […]

Local Vegetarian Restaurants

Part of my job in the Concierge Department here at Coastal Cottages is to provide guests with information about the area, and enquiries are always flooding in from curious guests who want a helping hand in deciding where to go and what to do during their stay. One question that seems to keep popping up is “Where can we eat?” Pembrokeshire has such a great selection of local produce available, as you’ll see throughout the year at various events and Food Festivals. Cafes, restaurants and pubs across the county jump at the chance to incorporate as much of this delicious […]

West Grove Barns: A Cluster

Sometimes you want to go on holiday for a retreat from everyday life. You want a cosy cottage on the edge of the map where you’ll have no mobile signal and the only sound you’ll hear for miles is birds singing or sheep bleating. Sometimes though, you want to get a nice crowd of your closest loved ones together and share the holiday of a lifetime. Perhaps as a celebration for a big birthday or anniversary, or maybe simply because you haven’t seen everyone in a while. But, as much as you want to get everyone together, the thought of […]
